Matt Diehl

Grand Canyon University

Class:

2028

Matt Diehl has quickly established himself as one of the top young golfers in the WAC. As a freshman in 2024–25, he competed in all 36 rounds for Grand Canyon University, posting a team-best scoring average of 72.2. He captured his first collegiate individual title at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate with rounds of 68, 65, and 69 to finish 14 under par, and went on to record four top-10 finishes. His standout play included a tied-for-seventh finish at the NCAA Regional in Reno, Nevada — the best regional finish in GCU program history — as well as top-10s at the GCU Invitational and the William H. Tucker Invitational. He twice fired season-low rounds of 65, highlighted by a 7-under performance at Desert Mountain. His accomplishments earned him the distinction of 2025 WAC Freshman of the Year — the first in GCU history — along with All-WAC First Team honors. He was also named WAC Golfer of the Week (March 13, 2025) and earned Rolex Junior All-American Honorable Mention recognition. Most recently, Diehl qualified for the 125th U.S. Amateur Championship at The Olympic Club in August 2025.
